How I Became a Qiskit Advocate Tier1
Here, I will share my experience of becoming a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1.
IBM Certified Quantum Computation Practice Exams
Practice exams aligned with the latest exam version, “IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer – Associate,” have been released. Use this practice exam collection to boost your score and increase your chances of passing.
Amazon Braket Learning Course
A course on Amazon Braket, AWS’s quantum computing service, has been released.
This course is designed for those with no prior knowledge of quantum computing or AWS, and by the end, you’ll even be able to learn about quantum machine learning. Take advantage of this opportunity to build your skills in quantum technologies!
What is the Qiskit Advocate Program v2.0?
This program designates and supports individuals who actively contribute to the quantum computing (Qiskit) community.
The program adopts a tier system ranging from Tier 0 to Tier 3, as shown below:
All participants start at Tier 0 and can progress to higher tiers based on their contributions and activities.
How I Became a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1
To be approved as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1, you must complete the following requirements:
- Be approved as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0
- Complete the Basic Qiskit Advocate Training
- Pass the IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer - Associate exam
- Earn the required points for Tier 1
In this section, I will explain how I became a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1 in chronological order.
Approval as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0
First, you need to be accepted as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0. Details about my experience becoming a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0 are described here.
Complete the Basic Qiskit Advocate Training
Next, I worked on the Basic Qiskit Advocate Training. Details of this training are provided when you are approved as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0.
In my case, the requirements included watching the designated videos and earning badges from the specified courses. After completing these tasks, I reported their completion through Airtable, as instructed within the Advocate Program.
Passing the IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer Exam
Next, to be approved as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1, you need to pass the IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer exam. Details of the exam can be found at the link above. The exam time allowed is 90 minutes. You must correctly answer at least 47 out of 68 questions.
For my experience of passing the exam, please refer to this article. For practice exams, you can check this resource.
After passing the exam, a public URL for your IBM Digital Badge will be issued. By sharing this URL later, your successful completion of the exam can be verified.
Earn the required points for Tier 1
Now, in addition to the requirements mentioned above, you also need to earn the points required for Tier 1 in order to be approved as a Qiskit Advocate Tier 1. Information on which activities contribute to earning points is provided in the GitHub Organization you are invited to after joining the Advocate Program.
While I cannot disclose the specific details, activities such as contributing PRs to Qiskit and completing designated courses are eligible for points. I accumulated points by engaging in multiple such activities. In my case, it took about eight months to earn the required points for Tier 1.
After completing and reporting all of these tasks, I received an email a few months later saying, “Congratulations - you have qualified for Tier 1,” which confirmed that I had been successfully approved as a Tier 1 Advocate.
Conclusion
When studying independently, I believe it is important not only to accumulate knowledge but also to leave tangible results, such as certifications or concrete achievements, as I did in this case. Such outcomes not only help demonstrate your skills externally, but also reinforce your learning by making what you studied more memorable through the process of achieving them.
I believe the Qiskit Advocate Program provides exactly this kind of opportunity. Approaching your studies and research in quantum computing with this program in mind can be considered an effective way to learn.
