How I Became a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0
Here, I will share my experience of becoming a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0.
IBM Certified Quantum Computation Practice Exams
Practice exams aligned with the latest exam version, “IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer – Associate,” have been released. Use this practice exam collection to boost your score and increase your chances of passing.
Amazon Braket Learning Course
A course on Amazon Braket, AWS’s quantum computing service, has been released.
This course is designed for those with no prior knowledge of quantum computing or AWS, and by the end, you’ll even be able to learn about quantum machine learning. Take advantage of this opportunity to build your skills in quantum technologies!
What is the Qiskit Advocate Program v2.0?
This program designates and supports individuals who actively contribute to the quantum computing (Qiskit) community.
The program adopts a tier system ranging from Tier 0 to Tier 3, as shown below:
All participants start at Tier 0 and can progress to higher tiers based on their contributions and activities.
How I Became a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0
Here, I will explain how I became a Qiskit Advocate Tier 0 in chronological order.
Passing the Basics of Quantum Information
To become a Tier 0 Advocate, you must earn at least one of the following badges:
- Basics of Quantum Information badge
- Fundamentals of Quantum Algorithms badge
- Qiskit Global Summer School 2025 Quantum Excellence (Advanced) badge
If you have already passed the IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit v2.X Developer - Associate exam, you can apply for Tier 0 without obtaining the badge mentioned above. For a detailed account of my experience passing this exam, please also refer to this page.
In my case, I decided to pursue the Basics of Quantum Information badge and started studying for it. To earn this badge, you need to score 80% or higher on the quiz accessible from here.
All questions are multiple-choice, and you can retake the quiz as many times as you want; however, if you fail to reach the passing score in two attempts, the exam will be temporarily locked, and you will need to wait a few days before you can try again.
I was able to pass the exam successfully by reading through the documents for each related lesson and by actively learning through running several quantum circuits using Qiskit.
Applying for the Qiskit Advocate Program
After passing the Basics of Quantum Information badge, I submitted my application for the Qiskit Advocate Program via this page, where I filled in the required information.
After submitting the application, I received an email stating that my application would be reviewed within 30 days.
About 30 days later, I received another email titled “Congratulations and welcome to the Qiskit Advocate Program!”, confirming that my application had been successfully approved.
As mentioned earlier, the Qiskit Advocate Program uses a point-based system in which participants earn points based on their activities and progress through different tiers.
After joining, I was invited to a GitHub organization that contains information such as:
- What kinds of activities earn points
- The requirements for each tier
Using this information as a reference, it is recommended to plan which activities to engage in to earn points and progress through the tiers.
Conclusion
In recent years, as quantum computers have continued to advance, the demand for professionals who can work with quantum computing-so-called quantum engineers-has been steadily increasing. Through participation in the Qiskit Advocate Program, I felt that it offers not only an opportunity to deepen one’s knowledge of quantum computing and Qiskit, but also a valuable way to build a career in the quantum technology field and showcase relevant skills. If you are interested in quantum technology or are considering a future career in this field, I highly encourage you to consider applying for this program!
